Anyone who has spent any time on an online dating site knows what it’s like to receive odd, inappropriate and unwanted messages. I keep some of them and thought I’d give you a little chuckle today. The first 5 came within the last couple of months. The longer ones are from 2009 and you’ll understand why I kept them.

I love the bit, “I would hold you like an egg”. It is my all-time favorite over-the-top dating message.

Haha the egg reference is hilarious, I hope you don’t mind me adding it to my repertoire of pickup lines! :)

Some of these messages sound like bulk send messages, perhaps from people who haven’t thoroughly looked at your profile. It’s not such a bad tactic if the message is good. When I was using online dating I used to send a slightly modified version of the same roleplay to several women. The women that didn’t get it, didn’t enjoy it or didn’t play along probably aren’t the women for me and the ones that did respond positively make me want to read their profiles in more detail and send a more personal message. Seems sly but online dating can be a numbers game, especially if the profiles aren’t that detailed in the first place.

I love reading these messages though; do post more when you get them. I’d also love to read any opening messages that did capture you and you responded to, perhaps ones that led to dates! :)

    Thanks for the fun read,

    Sam x

       Sam,
The egg is my all time fav… I think he was probably a scam artist. I wish I’d started keeping these from the very beginning.
The good ones? Hmmm… I will work on that one.
I agree that many men send a pat intro which I think is a turn off. I want to read something that tells me he’s read my profile. Actually, I will look at viewers before replying to an email to see if he indeed did take the time to read. If not, then I send him a quick ‘no thanks’.
